When looking at three actors from the film “Saving Private Ryan”, categorizing them into the types of acting styles. I would choose Matt Damon (PVT Ryan) to be the method actor, during the end of the film when Matt Damon finds out about his brothers and then collects himself to stand to the Captain saying he will stay with his new found brothers and fight with them until the end no matter what.

The next style we have is stylized acting and the person I picked for this would have to be Minnesota Ryan played by Nathan Fillion, he had a very small part in the film and his acting during that part was pretty much forced. He was found by Captain Miller who was looking for a Pvt James Ryan and they told him that is brothers were killed, he began to forcefully cry and asked how and then Cpt Miller said during battle and he said that’s impossible they are only in grade school. That whole scene almost ruined the movie for me, it just seemed really fake and way to forced.

Finally we have the realism actor and this is obviously Captain Miller played by Tom Hanks. During the whole movie he is calm, collective and very real. He is very serious in this role and does a great job during all scenes keeping his composure. One spot especially is during the beaches of Normandy he has his quick moment of extreme realism as he lands his feet on the beach looking disorientated, then collecting himself and picking his squad back up as they push forward to the gun towers. Tom Hanks plays in a lot of movies that involve realism. For instance, Saving Mr. Banks, he plays as Walt Disney who wants to buy the rights of a woman’s novel which became Mary Poppins. Another movie that comes to mind is “Castaway”, in this movie he is a very successful Fedex manager and he gets into a plane crash where he is stranded on an island for years then gets rescued and has to start his life all over again with a new sense of living. Tom Hanks really enjoys movies that seem real as he grows in his acting career as every actor should find their muse as they do more films. This category does not seem to be as hard to act as you would think, many war movies and even romantic movies call for realism acting, it is just about finding those actors and actresses who can pull it off.
